Family

What a week! My Grandmother and Aunt flew out from Idaho for a visit.  We really tried to spend every spare minute we had doing something fun with them.  Saturday we had my Grandmother's eightieth birthday party at my sister's houses. My Grandmother was a big dancer back in the day. (depression era) She told us stories of how the young couples would meet at each others houses to dance. My sister had the great idea to ask some friends of ours to come and teach us all how to swing dance. It was loads of fun! It was hard not to cry seeing my Grandmother dance with my brother.
On Sunday after church, we all went to my brother's house for a big lunch, and on Monday we went to the beach. Monday night all the adults (we ditched all the kids) went out for seafood on the pier. As Quentin and I drove home from dinner, I was overcome with gratefulness.

Numbers!

I have always had a thing for numbers. Maybe its my obsessive desire to organize everything, or maybe its a remembering of how as a child just the very act of counting was fun.

Number Pillow Cover in Dark Khaki

I got rid of all my red bar stools and replaced them with basic round ones of varying sizes. I am going to paint them all white and then add the numbers on the top. Do you think it will drive me crazy to have them out of order?! Yes, probably!

Many thanks to The vintique object for awarding me The Veratile Blogger Award!
Her very kind words were,"She does it all".
I will explain more about the award later this week, and let you know who I pass it along too.

I think that maybe the ADD blogger would be a better title!
I love so many thing, that it's hard for me to settle on any one thing. My newest love...
Couponing
Over the last month I have watched my grocery budget climb. I really have not changed what we eat, but food prices have just gotten so expensive.  While I never want to be an extreme couponer, it really is exciting to walk out of the store with something free or nearly free. Last night I planned a trip to Kroger. I looked at their circular and matched my coupons with anything they had on sale. Here is what I came home with..

* 24 pack of dear park water
*ore-Ida sweet potato fries
*4 packs of hotdogs
*Hienz Ketchup
*Sweet baby Ray BBQ sauce
*2 Turkey hill ice tea
* 2 boxes of secret government stuff (shh..) :)
*4 coffee cups
*7 dinner plates

Yes, even the dishes! The total amount was $21.26.
What is not to love!!!!

Ghost Lights

I finished my ghost lights!

Remember these?

I also found a third one that I added to the mix.

First, I bought 3 white extension cord for $2.96 each and cut the plug end off.

Thread the cut end of the cord down through the top of the shade.

Then you thread the cut end of the cord through a threaded steal nipple. $2.99 for 4.

Then unscrew an on/off pull chain socket. $4.96 each.

Thread the cord through the top half and then screw it onto the steal nipple. Gently split the cord down the middle at the natural break.
Strip both cords back about 3/4" being careful not to cut the wire.
You will wrap each exposed wire around a screw and tighten the screw.

It should look like this.

Gently pull the cord back up through the nipple until it sits in the top of the on/off switch.

Then screw on the bottom of the on/off switch.

Now, pull the whole thing up to the top of the shade.

Hang at the hight that looks good to you. I put small hooks in the ceiling and then braided the three cords together and ran them down the corner of the wall. The cord is the exact shade as the paint, so you really can't see it.

I am shopping for filament bulbs. Regular bulbs will blind you! (Trust me, I tried.)

Edison Bulb, Slim

So, here is the math:
$9.00 for cords
$3.00 for threaded nipples
$15.00 for on/off switch
$2.95 shade
$2.95 shade
$3.96 shade
$36.86 for the whole thing!

I think I am going to do glass terrariums on the table underneath. Maybe something like this:

I haven't intended to drop off the blog planet, but it has been really hard to finish the last few weeks of school and blog. The kids are testing this week, which always freaks me out a little.
We have had a great year, but have they learned everything that will be on those tests?!?

I have been working on the buffet in the kitchen. It is slowly coming along.

I still have some distressing to do, and I need to seal it. I have not yet decided on the knobs. I have to get knobs soon though; if one more person shuts the drawer, I will lose it!! I puttied over the existing knob holes; so, when you close the drawer there is no way to get it open!! You have to use a butter knife and hope you don't chip the drawer. (I have 2 chips already) I think I will go to Lowes today and look.

This style pull is what I think I want. I love this look from

I still have the old hardware. It is kind of cool, but not the look I am going for. If anyone would like them, please let me know. I would love to give them to someone who can use them. Just pay shipping.

3 key shields, 10 pulls, and 2 of the little knobs..

Have a great Tuesday!
